Radio Resources

Here are some radio resources we've checked out on the Web:

C. Crane Company: An innovative, committed radio developer and dealer.

The EconOceanic Multi-Band SW Crystal Radio: Named in honor of the legendary Zenith Transoceanic radio, this is a complete do-it-yourself multi-band SW crystal radio project.

The Foxhole Radio: Used by soldiers in World War II, this radio is made from a razor blade, safety pin, and other easy to find parts

Freeplay Energy Group: Makers of the Freeplay windup radio, the Freeplay Energy Group is a good source of alternative energy (solar and windup) radios.

Grundig Collectors Site: Worth a look!

Grundig North America: Eton is the North American licensee of Grundig radios; their products are a nice combination of style, function, and price.

Haimei Electronics: This company makes a wide range of 'promotional radios', the kind used in product promotions and giveaways. Neat stuff.

Kaito USA: Sometimes marketed under the Kaiwa name, Kaito imports some interesting SW receivers from China. The site is worth looking through.

Media Network: One of the most reputable SW news sources in the world.

Midnight Science: An intriguing source of crystal radio kits.

Ontario DX Association: A great shortwave listening club for novice and veteran alike, anywhere on the planet.

Passport to World Band Radio: My shortwave bible, bar none.

Popular Communications magazine: The 'Newsweek' of shortwave radio.

radios4you.com: A source of interesting, often creative radio products.

RadioIntel.com: A reliable, well-written source of SW news and reviews. I check them regularly.

Sangean Electronics: This company makes well-engineered, well-built radios. One of the Shortwave Portables Big Three, along with Grundig and Sony. (The site's opening theme, by the way, is Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man".)

Shortwave Crystal Radio Schematics: Make your own free-powered SW radio.

Sarah's Transistor Radios: A photo site of nearly 1000 vintage transistor radios; quite amazing.

Sony World Band Radios: What can I say? Sony is Sony!

Tecsun Radios: Tecsun makes many of Grundig North America's receivers. Don't be daunted by the Chinese characters: there is a link to 'EnglishWEB' in the top right hand corner. I keep an eye on Tecsun, because they come up with interesting radios.

TERK Technologies: Makers of stylish, high-end AM/FM and TV antennas. TERK has developed some interesting devices for wirelessly relaying audio/video throughout the home (Leapfrog), and the VR-1 TV volume regulator that automatically ends the audio assault of blaring TV commercials.

The Shortwave Store: Another trusted source of shortwave products. Run by people who care about their products and reputation.

Universal Radio: A well-established vendor of shortwave equipment. As well, Universal president Fred Osterman's book "Shortwave Receivers Past & Present" is sheer eye candy for any radio fan.
